Teacher, Children's Development Center - Full-time (2 positions available)

Job Summary:

Ministers to children in high-risk and crisis situations by planning and implementing educational programs that promote social, physical, spiritual and intellectual growth

Director, Children's Development Center

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides a safe environment for students by maintaining a clean, orderly and appealing classroom; removing known safety hazards and abiding by NC Child Care Laws, guidelines and best practice standards of care as set forth by the Division of Child Development; NC Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Provides basic physical care of children (administering medications as necessary, diapers, feedings, etc…) as well as continuous visual and hands on supervision, behavior management and ongoing crisis intervention.
  • Implements monthly curriculum themes, concepts, Bible focus, character education and educational goals through daily learning activities reflected in daily/weekly lesson plans and a monthly calendar; maintains record of daily observations as well as monthly progress reports given to parents and kept on file.
  • Strives to maintain therapeutic parent/teacher relationships addressing all facets of family care by:
    • meeting with parents to discuss child’s needs
    • assisting parents with determining priorities
    • suggesting ways to promote development and learningv
    • posting lesson plans and schedules
    • facilitating parenting skills programs
  • Observes and evaluates children’s behavior, performance, physical health and social development; stimulates intellectual, social and emotional growth of children by developing and directing educational programs and activities.
  • Conducts or schedules developmental and social/emotional screenings to assess delays in each child’s development. Assists in making referrals to local agencies.
  • Provides one on one instruction with speech and language development, math, computer skills, science, fine and gross motor skills, and kindergarten readiness.
  • Plans weekly offsite and onsite special activities and events to increase children’s positive environmental exposure and supplement curriculum goals. Transports children to and from offsite activities.
  • Retrieves, prepares, serves and cleans up morning and afternoon snacks, and lunches.
  • Participates in continuing teacher education, training and weekly staff meetings.

Job Skills & Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development & Family studies or combination of work experience and education commensurate with above duties; OR
  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and a minimum of three years teaching experience.
  • Must be patient with children, creative, adaptable and concerned for the child’s unique needs.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision. Excellent planning, administrative and organizational skills, time management efficiency and careful attention to detail.
  • Must pass North Carolina criminal background check; must become certified in CPR within the first 6 months of employment and recertify every year. First aid training is required every 3 years.
  • Experience teaching and designing a curriculum for Pre-K children
  • Proficiency in computer applications including MS Word, Excel and Outlook
